Footwear Footwear is often the forgotten element of peoples’ outdoor outfitting. A shoe that is good for trekking slushy city streets may not be appropriate for winter hiking, snowshoeing, or the extremely cold temperatures that a Vermont winter can bring. Winter Equipment Many places in the Vermont backwoods are best explored in the wintertime when the underbrush is buried and the endless views are easily seen through the leafless trees. Snowshoes and backcountry skis are the perfect Vermont winter explorers’ tools for walking the dog, or hiking up your favorite hill for a quick decent on a sled built for deep snow and a fast ride.
